This first Botton novelle, he was in his twenties, is wonderful. Most of us know what it feels like to be in love, be it mutual or otherwise. Some of us may have tried to outlet these feelings in writing; loveletters, poemlets, etc. Those who did will realize just how hard that is. His love having ended unhappily, De Botton's approach to come to terms with this was to intellectualize it. A nicely consoling plunge into well-thought, for all those who fell victim to the world's oldest disease. The currently happy lovers among us will, at least temporarily according to De Botton, have something more thrilling to do.
