Eoin Colfer (Eoin spreek je uit als Owen) werd geboren in Wexford, aan de kust van Ierland. Op de basisschool schreef hij al aangrijpende verhalen, bijvoorbeeld over de Vikingen die aan bod kwamen tijdens de geschiedenisles.Eoin studeerde aan de universiteit van Dublin (Ierland), en werkte op verschillende plekken als meester op een basisschool: in zijn geboorteplaats Wexford, maar ook in Italië, Tunesië en zelfs Saoudi-Arabië!Toen in 2001 het eerste Artemis Fowl-boek uitkwam, hoefde Eoin geen les meer te geven en kon hij zich helemaal concentreren op het schrijven van boeken.Een vriendje voor altijd, bijvoorbeeld, een prachtig prentenboek over het verzonnen vriendje Mattie, dat graag een vriendje voor altijd zou willen.Zelf zegt Eoin Colfer over schrijven: ‘Ik zal doorgaan met schrijven totdat mensen stoppen met lezen, of totdat ik geen ideeën meer heb.
