She wrote the young adult novel The Hate U Give and is set to release her second novel, On the Come Up in 2019. Although fiction, the goal of Thomas' work is to shine a light on the issue that many African-Americans in the United States face and to shed more light on the Black Lives Matter Movement.

In a world where he’s expected to amount to nothing, maybe Mav can prove he’s different. When King Lord blood runs through your veins, though, you can't just walk away.
