Alice Munro (Canada, 1931) studeerde aan de universiteit van Western Ontario en dreef met haar eerste man James Munro in de jaren zestig een boekhandel. Munro, die zich heeft gespecialiseerd in het korte verhaal, geldt als een van Canada’s belangrijkste schrijvers.
